Railways revitalize trade routes for Türkiye’s heavy industry.
Türkiye is strengthening its trade ties with Europe through newly established railway corridors that streamline the transport of heavy machinery. These rail connections reduce transit time and cost, offering European buyers a faster, more sustainable way to source industrial equipment.
The most notable among these is the Halkalı–Kapıkule Railway Line, part of the EU–Türkiye connectivity agenda, which enhances rail access to Bulgaria and other EU states. This upgrade allows for high-capacity freight trains carrying machinery, agricultural equipment, and manufacturing systems to reach European markets within days.
Türkiye’s machinery sector, which includes metal processing equipment, automotive components, and construction tools, has seen a 15% export increase year-on-year. Leading manufacturers in Konya, Ankara, and Bursa have benefited significantly from these enhanced logistics options.
Moreover, the shift to rail transport aligns with Türkiye’s sustainability objectives, reducing carbon emissions per shipment. This is a competitive edge in a market increasingly driven by green procurement standards.
The EU’s focus on nearshoring and Türkiye’s Customs Union membership also facilitate seamless trade, making Turkish machinery suppliers more attractive than ever.
